sloer
| Wānaka 6 piece band sloer is bringing their deeply emotive, heart-felt and starkly beautiful music to Sherwood for the first time.
Opening the evening will be with a duo set from their Wanaka friends Fiona & the Glow In a recent review Jeff Harford said this about sloer’s recent Dunedin show “A generous crowd has gathered on the strength of word of mouth. This band sloer is supposed to be pretty good.” Two songs in, knowing glances ripple through the room. Whispered critiques between punters and music cognoscenti alike share a common theme: there’s something special going on here. Songs keep coming, layered like shards of Central Otago schist, their bronze-brown and deep-grey tones speckled with glittering flakes of mica that briefly catch the sun. Unflinching, evocative and starkly beautiful, sloer’s music is to be experienced as much as listened to. In that moment, prepare to feel stuff and to have it sit with you a while. sloer are fresh from completing recording of their debut album at Port Chalmers with renouned engineer Tom Bell – think The Clean, IVY to name a few. This will be an evening of pure emotion. You will mostly likely cry … a lot…but in a good way. |
